WHY THIS MATTERS: NBA PLAYER JASON COLLINS COMES OUT OF THE CLOSET
I don’t normally do the more serious “think-pieces” for Hello Giggles but one of the editors asked me to yesterday (maybe because I’ve written about my love of basketball before? I’m guessing there aren’t a lot of HG contributors willing to tackle a sports topic), so I jotted down some of my thoughts, although I will admit I wrote this after a 12-hour workday so I’m not sure if this is all that coherent (and i have yet to re-read it, so… wow is this a great endorsement of my own work, or what?). But I would love to hear what you guys think!
Required reading, you guys.
First single off the new She & Him album. It’s a cheery delight, and I would expect nothing less — a good song of the day for this rainy Thursday.

HEY! Do you guys remember when I would write letters to inanimate objects on a weekly basis over at HelloGiggles? Well, I’ve got a new one up, and it’s all about whiteboards. Yes, whiteboards. Now, read it and then tell me what other things I should write letters to. Seriously — I want to write posts you want to read! So suggestions are welcome!
This one’s a no-brainer: watch GIRLS on HBO tonight at 9pm, because you already do, but especially because one of my closest friends, the lovely and amazing Sarah Heyward (aka @shinyunicorn on Twitter and tweenysomething on tumblr) co-wrote the episode with Lena and I have a feeling it’s going to be damn funny and amazing, just like Sarah is! (Yes, Sarah is the one who often pops up on my Instagram and tumblr as we live just three blocks away from each other and spend an excessive amount of time at each others’ houses and staring lovingly into the adorable eyes of her dog Pixie, who has a permanent dog bed at my house. She’s amazing, I love her, and you should too).
loving the hellogiggles redesign
Congrats Zooey, Molly and Sophia — what a GREAT redesign. Seriously. It reminds me how bummed I am that I haven’t had time to post a new Open Letter or Stamos Story Hour or Tech Talk or List of Stuff in a while — the crazy job hours and other projects have me drowning in work at the moment.
BUT — and that’s a big but — if I were to get into it again, what kind of stuff would you guys like to see me posting and writing about over at HG?
WOAH. Paul Scheer is writing for HelloGiggles? Good work girls.
BUT, I spend a lot of time “talking” to people who see movies (holla, social media!), and I dedicate equal attention to things like people.com and Vanity Fair. All of which means that I am your equivalent of a sportswriter: I can’t do the thing I’m talking about, but I can formulate lots of opinions about it. So let me help you decide which of this year’s slew is a Slew Stand-Out worth spending your money on before we turn the calendar into 2013 (or before the Mayans get their way).

Are you guys reading my friend Abby’s HelloGiggles posts yet? Because she is really f-ing funny and you should.

I would love to purchase a thirty-dollar homemade organic wax candle that smells exactly like a unicorn cried into a grapefruit but I’d also like to eat lunch, so here’s a few tips on where to buy candles on the cheap and then how to enjoy them Romeo + Juliet style, minus the suicide pact.
Anyroads: Women Working to Do Good
Over a year ago, the White House Office of Public Engagement approached HelloGiggles with the idea of doing a joint series that focuses on women’s contributions to various communities. The Office of Public Engagement was set up by President Obama as a way to connect with Americans, hear their…
Tumblr’s reblog function cuts off the most important part of Julia’s post, which is this:
If President Obama is re-elected, we will get to continue with this amazing series for four more years, and possibly beyond. I have severe doubts that Mitt Romney, a man who can’t even be bothered to discuss women’s issues on his campaign site (save for a brief mention of wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade) would have any interest in pursuing this series any further. Through it, we have raised awareness and helped raise funds for dozens of organizations run by incredible ladies.
Women and people who care about women, please seriously consider how a vote for Romney could mean a vote to diminish women’s rights.
