Podcast suggestions?
Okay so we’re about to get in the car to drive from Maine to NYC. The good news is that it’s only six hours and at hour five we’ll be stopping in New Haven to eat pizza at one of New Haven’s famous pizza joints. (New Haven is known for Yale and pizza, but in my book, mostly pizza). Anyway, I always get stuck in the backseat with the cat and my dad and stepmom are the type who don’t listen to music during the drive so I am pretty much up to my own devices, that is unless I can get them to listen to podcasts. Of late I’ve gotten them into WTF with Marc Maron and NPR’s Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me but I’d love other suggestions for good comedy podcasts for the whole family to enjoy — please reply with suggestions lovely people of tumblr!
Also, you can expect 900 posts of pizza later.
The lady who’s office I was occupying has returned from vacation and thus I am sitting in my dad’s office, which is where this photo was taken. Some things to note:
- My dad is loud. Obviously, we are related. But that means I have to look like an asshole wearing huge headphones to listen to music while I write.
- I have lost my tan. This is the thing I hate the most about New York City.
- Look at how tired I am. Do you know why? This is because ONE night of drinking/partying in NYC ruins me. That’s all it takes. LA has softened me — I am accustomed to bars closing at 2am and not being able to drink all that much because I often have to drive and early dinners of inexpensive Mexican food and waking up before nine am the next day to go to yoga. If I really did live here permanently I’d either have to form a cocaine habit or become a recluse.
- I’m still thinking about how not tan I am.
- You can’t see it, but this is actually a sleeveless shirt, that I’m realizing looks a lot like a Ladies Golf polo type-thing (hence my outfit description tweet earlier) except it’s silky-ish and is from Urban Outfitters or something and I’m wearing it with a pair of high-wasted red silk shorts and some beaded Southwestern style belt and I was not thinking much when I got dressed this morning.
- So pale.
- Don’t let the ladies at those cheap manicure/pedicure salons on Main Street in Santa Monica ever wax your eyebrows because they will still look uneven two months later.
The Stamos East Coast Tour
In a little less than two weeks from today I’m headed to the East Coast for what feels like an eternity, but is in reality just six weeks (unless I sell my pilot and then you better believe I’ll hop on the first plane back to LA for a meeting!). I’ll mostly be in Maine for that time, BUT I will be in New York, DC and Boston! Here’s the tentative schedule:
July 23-25: WASHINGTON DC. My first stop will be Washington DC for my grandfather’s interment at Arlington. My grandfather passed away in February (some of you may remember that HelloGiggles “Open Letter to Grandparents” I posted) and as he was in the Navy in World War II, he’s going to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, which really feels like such an incredible honor. I doubt I’ll be doing anything more than visiting with my cousins on my dad’s side and then hanging out with my grandmother, aunt and uncles (on my mom’s side), but if for some reason I have a moment to spare and can do anything fun or go somewhere fun I will! To my friends in DC - if I can see you then I will do my best!
July 25-26: NEW YORK CITY. My brother and I are popping back up to New York for just a night at home with our dad and step-mom before we (we = the four of us, including my parents’ cat, Lily), drive up to our house in Maine. Probably won’t have time to hang out with anyone then (although I may try to see a friend or two, if it’s at all possible and I’m not sweating too much), but I also doubt I’ll do any work when I’m just in the city for a day and a half, so hopefully there’s fun stuff going on. Yes? Yes.
July 26-Aug 3: MAINE, BITCHES! I love Maine. I love going home to Maine. I’m so excited to have a random week in July to hang out with my family, see a few friends, eat some DELICIOUS food, and ideally crank through some writing.
Aug 3-5: BOSTON/CAPE COD. So excited to head to Beantown for my friend Leah’s Bachelorette! We’re doing a night in Boston and then a night on the Cape and I get to see some of my closest friends from college, which I don’t often get to do, so I couldn’t be happier about this.
Aug 5-17: NEW YORK CITY. Okay this is the important New York City trip. This is when I hope to see some of YOU, fellow Tumblrers (Meghan? Tahlia?) and New York based people I never get the opportunity to interact with FACE TO FACE because I’ll actually have an extended chunk of time in the city! I’m hoping there will be a HelloGiggles show then, but if not maybe I can find someone to let me hop in on their storytelling show. Anyone have any suggestions? I’d love to do some New York-based comedy while I’m in town. Also I’m hoping to pop in and visit my friends at the Tumblr offices (Rachel? Jess? Annie? If you’re reading this…), potentially meet with some people in the publishing world, and most importantly — I’ll be working out of my Dad’s office for the majority of the time which means I’ll feel like a real city girl going to work somewhere and everything! Also — if anyone knows of some good spots in NYC to go to yoga on the cheap (or somewhere I can do an inexpensive two week unlimited package), do tell!
Aug 17-Sep 4: MAINE! I’ll be spending that first weekend doing Bachelorette and Bridal Shower things for my BFF from forever (I’m Maid-of-Honor, no big deal), but then it’s my annual summer trip with the entire fam (hopefully my brother and his fiancée as well!) where I’ll get to actually take some vacation that will include a lot of eating, reading, beaching, and kayaking, but I’m sure I’ll have some writing to do as well. In fact I know I will. And yes there is a slim chance I’m going to have to fly back to LA early but considering as I haven’t purchased a return ticket just yet — it’s looking like I won’t be back until after Labor Day.
So if you have any ideas for me or want to meet up or something (or even if you just want to say hi and you live on the East Coast too and want to welcome me back to my homeland) — send something via my ASK and we’ll see if we can make it happen!
