Tonight my dad showed my brother and I some old slides from when he and my mom got married. They were hippies. He had a big beard and a mustache and long hair and his wedding suit was tan and he had on a mustard yellow shirt and a purple tie. My mother’s hair was longer and it was parted down the middle and she had it tied up, just half up, with a white bow. Her dress was a halter style with a low back and it was blue and white striped with flowers on it. They got married in the backyard at my great-grandparents’ house in Maine. It rained that day and my dad told us that just as he and my mom were leaving the ceremony the dance floor caved in and they laughed all the way to their honeymoon.
Then my dad showed us other pictures of our mom, pictures we’d never seen before, like the one I posted earlier. It’s fun to see the life of your parents before you knew them. I miss my mom.
